France advances to Euro quarterfinals on Belgium own goal



The France national soccer team has advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Football Championship (Euro 2024) after defeating Belgium.

France won 1-0 in the round of 16 at the Düsseldorf Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany, today (June 2) thanks to an own goal from defender Jan Vertonghen in the 40th minute.

After a frustratingly indecisive first half, France broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when Kolo Moani's shot deflected off Vertonghen's left knee and into the back of the net.

With the hard-fought victory, France reached the Round of 16 without a single field goal in four games - three group stage matches and the round of 16 combined.

Meanwhile, in Frankfurt, 무료고스톱다운받기 Portugal punched their ticket to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 penalty shootout victory over Slovenia after 120 minutes of hard-fought action.

After a one-sided attack against Slovenia, Portugal was awarded a penalty kick in the 13th minute of extra time when Diogo Jota was brought down in the box, but Ronaldo's spot kick was saved.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, Portugal goalkeeper Diogo Costa produced a stunning save to deny Slovenia's first, second, and third kickers to secure the victory.

The win sets up a 'big match' in the quarterfinals, with Mbappe's France facing Ronaldo's Portugal in the early hours of June 6th.
